Product Information

What Size Downspouts Does The AutoSpout Fit?

The AutoSpout fits onto 2 inch by 3 inch rectangular downspouts.  (Other sizes and shapes will come shortly).

What Are The Dimensions Of The AutoSpout?

Product:

  • 6 inches tall
  • 7.5 inches wide
  • 47 inches long

When Upright:

  • Extends 9 inches from the back of your existing downspout (exterior wall of your home).

When Extended:

  • Extends 48 inches from the back of your existing downspout (exterior wall of your home).
What Happens If Less Than The Required Amount Of Rain Falls (Or It Is Raining Very Slowly)?

There is a seepage hole in the AutoSpout so that if not enough rain falls the water will drain.  This prevents mold, mosquitos, and ice.  This is a small enough amount of water so that it won’t saturate the ground.

What Colors Does The AutoSpout Come In?

Currently the AutoSpout is only available in white.  You can follow the instructions below to paint your AutoSpout any color you would like.  (See “How To Paint My AutoSpout” section below).

If The AutoSpout Is Only 47 Inches Long, How Does The Water Get 5 Feet From My Home?

Depending on how high off the ground you install your AutoSpout, the water flowing from the end of the AutoSpout will travel at least 5 feet away from the back of your existing downspout (exterior wall of your home).

How Much Water Is Needed To Make The AutoSpout Lower?

Less than 1 gallon (3.8 liters) of water.

How Much Space Do I Need Between My Downspout And The Ground For The AutoSpout To Fit And Function?

You will need at least 1 foot (12 in/30.5 cm) from the bottom of your downspout to the highest point below where the AutoSpout will extend.  (Or 6 in [15.25 cm] from the bottom of the AutoSpout adapter).

How Does The AutoSpout Do In Snow?

As long as there is a path for the AutoSpout to lower it will function well.

When Do I Need To Replace The Batteries Of The AutoSpout?

Never!  The AutoSpout simply uses the weight of water and gravity to lower and rise.  No batteries required.  No electronics.  No motors.  No complicated mechanisms.

Can I Paint The AutoSpout?

Yes.  Please follow the instructions below to paint your AutoSpout.   (See “How To Paint My AutoSpout” section below).

Painting Instructions

  1. Get a paint that is designed for plastic.  Some examples of spray paint like this are Krylon Fusion for Plastic, Valspar Plastic Spray Paint, and Rust-Oleum Specialty Paint for Plastic Spray.
  2. Wash the surface of your AutoSpout with soapy water (roughly 1 teaspoon liquid detergent like Dawn per quart of water).
  3. Towel the surface dry, then allow it to air dry for roughly 30 minutes.
  4. Put on a dust mask and rough up the surface that you want painted using 320 to 400 grit sandpaper.  (You only need to sand the AutoSpout enough so that it is rough to the touch).
  5. Vacuum up the sanding dust so that it won’t ruin your coat of paint by settling onto the wet paint surface.
  6. Wipe down the AutoSpout with a tack cloth to ensure no dust remains.
  7. For best results, put on a pair of rubber gloves and them to avoid transferring the oil from your hands to the AutoSpout.
  8. Moisten, but don’t soak, a rag with rubbing alcohol and wipe down the sanded surface.
  9. Wait 5 minutes for the surface to air dry.
  10. Apply a thing coat of paint to the AutoSpout according to the paint manufacturer’s directions.
  11. Allow the paint to dry for the amount of time listed by the paint manufacturer.
  12. Repeat steps 10 and 11 according to the paint manufacturer’s recommended coat count.

Because the AutoSpout is a larger item, we recommend using a paint sprayer if available.  This will make painting easier than using a lot of spray paint cans.
